Talk about recruiting
Kelly Reed has coached for 36 years, most of them at Lake City High School in Coeur d’Alene, where he was the boys basketball assistant coach and offensive coordinator. His offense averaged 74.8 points a game, without a shot clock, for the 26–0 team that won the 2023 Idaho 5A state championship, the first in program history. That team climbed to #24 in the national rankings, the highest ever for an Idaho high school, and Kelly was named the 2023 North Idaho High School All-Sports Coach of the Year.
Before Lake City he coached at Moscow, Troy, and Priest River, including as offensive coordinator for Moscow’s 1992 girls state champions. Across basketball, football, and track he has been part of six state championship teams, and his basketball teams have won 13 district titles and made 13 state tournament appearances.
Players he has mentored include a Nike Hoop Summit selection, a McDonald’s All-American nominee, three Idaho Players of the Year, more than 20 first-team all-state picks, and more than a dozen NCAA Division I athletes.
A University of Idaho graduate in physical education and health, Kelly also played college basketball at Dominican College in San Rafael, California. Today he focuses on modern skill development for players of all ages, offense design for coaches, and helping student-athletes and their families navigate college recruiting and NIL.
